Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit (Candy K and 22) | Review & Swatches.

I finally gave in to the hype. After months of watching and reading Kylie Cosmetics (The brand of lip products created by Kylie Jenner, for those who have managed not to hear about it yet…) Lip Kit reviews and stalking her snapchat, Instagram, etc. I decided to bite the bullet and attempt to order two Lip Kits which I felt I could justify buying due to them being colours I wear often.

Originally I was intending to buy Candy K and either Koko K or Posie K. However, due to the insane rate that Kylie’s Kits sell out, I wasn’t able to grab Koko or Posie, but I did manage to bag Candy K and 22 – which was a colour I also really liked and didn’t own anything similar to (see, well justified, right?!…)

As I said above, in the end, I ordered Candy K and 22. I’ve tried to order from Kylie Cosmetics before, but without luck. This time, I set up an account prior to the re-stock date and time, and this helped with getting through the process quickly – so I would recommend trying this if you haven’t already and aren’t having any luck getting the products you want. Although at the minute, Kylie seems to always have a number of the kits, etc. continuously stocked up; typically after I’d struggled through my order! So it may be lot easier to place an order at the moment…

So for delivery, my confirmation email and the site said it should take up to 3-5 days for shipping information, and 10-15 days (I think, I vaguely remember) shipping time. Both were true to detail and mine arrived in the UK within the minimum of 10 days! Unfortunately I was hit with a customs fee. I had to pay around £15 when collecting from the post office. It seems to be a bit hit and miss with as and when people are people charged customs for their products, which can seem a bit unfair on those who are picked out to be charged!

I also loved the little card that came with it, a nice touch from Kylie!

Upon first swatching the Lip Kits, I see that the colour in the tube is quite different from what the colour on the box depicts. Candy K came out looking slightly more brown at first but dried to a dark mauve shade, which is super-wearable for me! 22 looked a lot darker in the tube than I expected, and when swatched the colour seemed a bit odd… However I give it chance and once it dried it turned into the lovely burnt orange-red that Kylie has been sporting all over Snapchat and Instagram.

Overall, I’m impressed so far! I’m happy with the colours I picked, and maybe in the future I’ll pick up some more, as I know I’d like to try the glosses now that she has created gloss formulas for the popular Lip Kit shades!

June Favourites

It’s that time again; time for my monthly favourites!

While looking through my little selection and thinking about what I have been loving during the month of June, I’ve discovered I’ve actually got quite a few ‘random’ bit and some beauty favourites. But I’ll have to admit, I do like it when bloggers/youtubers throw in a few random faves, so hopefully this post will still be enjoyable.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation: I have owned this foundation for a while, but it’s been neglected in my make-up organiser for a few months as I had purchased it in a shade that was a tad too dark for me – it’s great for when I’m fake tanned, or when I have a natural tan after a holiday, but it’s way off my natural skin tone. However, I’ve recently developed a bit of a tan after the UK’s short-lived heat-wave. I was able to sit in the sun for a few days so my skin got a lovely little tan. As a result of this, I wanted/needed not only a darker foundation, but one that would enhance the glow of my skin and give me a nice healthy complexion, and I rediscovered this foundation! It was everything I was looking for; a buildable coverage that doesn’t mattify me completely. Perfect!

Herbal Essences Bee Strong shampoo and conditionerAfter running out of the shampoo and conditioner from Herbal Essences Dazzle Shine range, I decided to try out the Bee Strong range next and I think I made the best choice ever… Not long after buying these products, I had blonde put back into my hair – I’m now rocking some very summery bayalage, I l0ve it! – and it felt a bit dry towards the ends where my hair was blondest, after two (literally two) uses of these little wonders my hair was super soft and the honey scent is devine. Definitely recommended if you have hair that breaks a lot and needs some smoothing.

Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in Candy K: Another recent purchase, and I am obsessed. The scent, the colour and the mega-creamy lip liner has earned King Kylie some major points (I’ll be doing a full on review and swatching, etc. post soon.)

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dreams Forever perfume: My Mum and Dad brought me this back from their recent holiday, knowing that I’m a mad Marc Jacobs perfume lover. I have the original Daisy Dreams and in comparison, this, to me, is slightly muskier and woody but still a gorgeous scent. While the original is daytime-y, I’d definitely consider this one to be a holiday-time scent for the evenings. Very fresh and summery.

Game of Thrones Season 6:
No spoilers, but Oh. My. God. If you haven’t caught up, DO IT NOW. Are we really supposed to wait 10 months till S7? (Cry face emoji.)

InTheFrow Unboxing Videos: I’m a recent subscriber to Victoria McGrath/InTheFrow’s channel but I am loving her videos lately, especially all the ASOS unboxing videos. Her blog is absolutely stunning to read too.

Music for Concentration playlist (Spotify): I’ve been getting my head down into my books for the postgraduate teaching degree I’m starting in September, this month and I have been loving this playlist to help me focus on what I’m learning. All instrumental and very calming, relaxing music. Definitely one for those who have exams to study for/essays to write! I know I’ll be over-playing it when I go back to university.

BOOK REVIEW | Dark Places – Gillian Flynn

dark places
“Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice” of Kinnakee, Kansas.” She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben. Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.”

(Blurb, taken from goodreads.)

I think my love for all things Gillian Flynn began after I watched Gone Girl in the cinema. I hadn’t heard very much about it, except that the book was very well-loved and the film was highly anticipated; rightly so, it is now one of my favourite films!

After this, I went on a research-rampage, finding out what other treasures Gillian Flynn had for me to discover, and I found this particular book ‘Dark Places’. With high hopes, I downloaded it onto my kindle and began to devour it.

Dark Places is ultimately very gripping, a skill Flynn seems to have mastered in everything she does. The novel offers, twists, turns and plot-lines that you never see coming. The pivotal character, Libby Day, isn’t particularly lovable, but there’s something about her that intrigues, makes you want to read on and find out just how much she really knows about the murder of her family. Aside from that, the novel gives you insight into the minds of other characters; Patty and Ben Day – the Mother and Brother of Libby Day. I thouroughly enjoy when books offer differerent character perspectives, and Dark Places was no exception. Every passage darker, and more thrilling than the last.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this book. A true page-turner that can easily be read in one sitting (it’s just that gripping!)

I can’t wait to read more of Flynn’s novels – in fact, I’d love if you could recommend the next one for me to read…
